Georgian doctors and health officials say that the country is on the verge of the sixth wave of coronavirus as Omicron cases, which is a new strain of the virus, is spreading rapidly, hitting 335 as of January 5.

The National Center for Disease Control of Georgia has already confirmed an internal transmission of the new variant.

The health officials believe that the spread of the strain will increase new cases by four or five times.

Doctor Bidzina Kulombegov says that the individuals who have received a booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine are likely to be more protected from complications, as well as those who recovered from the virus and also got a vaccine shot.

Georgia has reported 3,567 new cases of coronavirus, 2,105 recoveries and 41 deaths in the past 24 hours.

As of now 31 percent of the country’s adult population have been completely vaccinated.
