Droa opposition party leader, Elene Khoshtaria, and six other individuals have gone on hunger strike, demanding the transportation of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili to a civil clinic as he has been on hunger strike since October 1.
Khoshtaria says that she will use the form of the protest until Saakashvili is brought to a civil clinic instead of the government-offered prison clinic.
Saakashvili’s doctor says that a council of doctors will assess the ex-president’s health condition on Friday as he has already lost 10 percent of his weight.
The government officials say that Saakashvili, who returned to Georgia after eight years in political exile to remove the Georgian Dream from power, is ‘staging a show’ with his hunger strike.
They say that the former president has plans to cause destabilisation if he is brought to a civil clinic.
Saakashvili was convicted in Georgia back in 2018 in absentia for abuse of authority and was sentenced to six years in prison.
