Droa opposition party leader Elene Khoshtaria has stopped her 17-day hunger strike as former president Mikheil Saakashvili was offered transfer to Gori military hospital by the Ministry of Justice earlier today.

“Saakashvili being transferred to a military hospital in Gori that is fully equipped with necessary medical facilities , fulfills my only request. Therefore, I am now ending my 17th day of a hunger strike, “Khoshtaria said.

Saakashvili’s United National Movement party, which is now holding a rally in central Tbilisi, is waiting for Saakashvili’s decision on the transfer.

Saakashvili has been on hunger strike since his arrest in Tbilisi on October 1, for 50 days.

He fainted in Gldani Prison No.18 hospital yesterday.

Saakashvili said last week that he was ready to stop his hunger strike if he was transferred to a civil clinic.

However, the government claimed that the transfer carried threats to his life and health and that the former president was receiving all necessary medical service in the prison hospital.
