Droa opposition party leader Elene Khoshtaria, who has been on hunger strike for 15 days, says she has offered solutions to the ruling party MPs to solve the current political tension in Georgia.

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party MPs Irakli Kobakhidze, Mamuka Mdinaradze, and Shalva Papuashvili visited Khoshtaria in parliament today, who is demanding the transfer of former president Mikheil Saakashvili to a civil clinic from a prison hospital.

“I am ready for any communication which will be result-oriented. Of course, the ruling party does not have much time to think,” Khoshtaria said.

Khoshtaria says that she is against Saakashvili’s return to power. However, she believes that the government’s attitude to Saakashvili is ‘unfair,’ and that the former president, who has been on hunger strike for 48 days, must be brought to a civil clinic per his demand.

The government officials say that Saakashvili, who returned to Georgia after eight years in political exile to remove the Georgian Dream from power, is ‘staging a show’ with his hunger strike.

They say that the former president has plans to cause destabilisation if he is brought to a civil clinic.

Saakashvili was convicted in Georgia back in 2018 in absentia for abuse of authority and was sentenced to six years in prison.
