President commits to opening EU negotiation talks, says opposition leader

Eka Beselia, leader of the For Justice opposition party, announced that the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili has taken responsibility for initiating negotiations with the European Union and will carry out this mandate. Speaking on the importance of a newly introduced charter, Beselia emphasized that it is more than just a document—it represents the country’s future.

“The President is taking responsibility to open up the space for negotiations with the European Union and assume this mandate. As for the charter, its implementation phase begins on October 26, and it will become the most important guiding principle for the nation,” Beselia stated.

She added that the significance of the charter will only grow with time, highlighting the President’s foresight in planning it as a roadmap for Georgia’s future.

In a briefing on September 23, the Georgian President called for the formation of a technical government through consultations with political parties, but with non-political appointees. She also pointed to the European model, where, during crises, elections can bring to power professionals widely recognized and unaligned with political conflicts.
