Prosecutor’s Office expressed readiness to meet with the family of the victim

The mother of a 28-year-old teacher who was killed in Tbilisi has issued a response to the Prosecutor’s Office following its latest statement on the case.

“Yes, the Prosecutor’s Office will have to meet me - but not to explain what investigative actions they conducted, rather what they failed or were unable to conduct,” wrote Eka Kupatadze on social media. She accused prosecutors of learning key details about the case from television reports rather than through their own investigation.

Kupatadze questioned the official version of events, rejecting the claim that a single blow delivered by a 17-year-old caused fatal injuries. She argued that it is implausible that a healthy, standing 28-year-old man could suffer a complete fracture of the frontal bone and extensive brain damage from such an action.

“Are you afraid of protests and unrest? Then you will get them,” she wrote, adding that she will agree to meet only with the Prosecutor General, stating that she does not trust anyone else.

Earlier the Prosecutor’s Office expressed readiness to meet with the family of the victim, Giga Avaliani, and to explain the investigative steps taken, as well as the legal basis for the charges brought against those detained.

Avaliani, a 28-year-old teacher, died in Tbilisi following an attack involving minors. Four individuals have been detained in connection with the case. Three are charged with failure to report a crime, while one suspect has been charged under Article 117, Part 2 of the Criminal Code - intentional grievous bodily harm resulting in death.

The victim’s family insists that the case should be classified as a group crime and demands that all responsible individuals, including possible accomplices, be held fully accountable.
