The mother of murdered teacher Giga Avaliani has criticised the handling of court proceedings, raising concerns over witness testimony and the conduct of the defence.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Eka Kupatadze said she had expected to testify as a witness but was not called to give evidence as initially planned. She added that she had been due to deliver a final statement in court as the legal successor of the victim, a role recognised during sentencing.

Kupatadze also expressed frustration that a key individual - identified as Nia Imnadze - was not questioned during the trial. She described Imnadze as a central figure, suggesting her testimony could have been significant.

In her remarks, Kupatadze disputed allegations that her son had sexually harassed a girl, stating that the individual in question “had nothing to say” during the court proceedings.

She called on journalists to question defence lawyers about their approach, arguing that important testimonies had been overlooked.

The case concerns the killing of 28-year-old teacher Avaliani, who died following an attack by minors in the Temka district of Tbilisi. Four individuals have been detained in connection with the incident.
