Ekaterine Ivanishvili, wife of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has expressed condolences to Eka Kupatadze, whose son, Giga Avaliani, died after an assault that sparked nationwide calls for a full investigation.
In a public statement on Tuesday, Ivanishvili said no words could ease the pain of losing a child but stressed that Kupatadze was not alone in her grief.
“Mrs. Eka, I wholeheartedly sympathize with you and share your profound tragedy. I know there are no words that can ease the pain of a mother who has lost her child. However, I want you to know that you are not alone in this grief, and that every Georgian mother shares your sorrow,” the statement read.
Responding to a public appeal addressed to her by Kupatadze, Ivanishvili noted that the investigation into Avaliani's death has not yet been completed.
“As far as I am aware, the investigation has not yet been concluded. I am confident that the relevant state authorities will conduct a comprehensive investigation and examine all the circumstances thoroughly, so that none of the questions surrounding the terrible tragedy that befell you remain unanswered,” she said.
Ivanishvili concluded by wishing Kupatadze strength and resilience.
“As one mother to another, as one woman to another, I wish you spiritual strength, resilience and peace,” she said.
The statement comes amid continued public attention surrounding the investigation into the death of Avaliani, a 28-year-old tutor who died after being assaulted in Tbilisi in October 2025.
