Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the Coalition for Change, on Monday hailed the outcome of Moldova’s parliamentary elections, calling it a defeat for Russia and a sign of strengthening pro-European forces in the wider region.

In a social media post, Khoshtaria congratulated Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the Moldovan people after Sandu’s party secured more than 50 percent of the vote.

“This victory is also very important for us. Russia’s weakening in the region, the triumph of the EU, democracy, and free elections strengthens our chances of expelling Russia and returning to the European path. Georgia’s liberation from Russian influence and Ukraine’s inevitable victory will practically establish real peace in the region,” Khoshtaria wrote.

She argued that Moldova proves Russia’s and the ruling Georgian Dream party’s claim that European integration means war is false.

“Moldova is a clear example that integration into the European Union is the path of freedom and peace. Georgia must not remain a historical and regional anomaly. Until the end!” she said.
