A telephone conversation took place between the Honorary Chairman of the Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili, and French President Emmanuel Macron, the ruling Georgian Dream party said on Wednesday.

The conversation, initiated by President Macron, lasted for one hour and focused on the situation in Georgia, the GD press office said.

“Macron expressed concern over the developments in the country and expressed his intention to contribute to efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions [sparked by the Georgian Government’s decision last month to postpone EU integration talks until 2028]. Ivanishvili thanked the French President for his initiative and welcomed the proposal for collaborative efforts”, the GD noted.

Both leaders agreed to maintain communication and continue assessing progress in the coming days, it added.
