Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Friday said Tajikistan and Georgia had agreed to establish a joint intergovernmental commission aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Speaking at a joint briefing with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Rahmon said the sides had signed the relevant document and expressed confidence that the commission would facilitate the implementation of practical initiatives and strengthen cooperation in various fields.
The Tajik leader noted that talks with Kobakhidze also focused on deepening ties in culture and humanitarian affairs, which he described as an important element in strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.
Rahmon welcomed efforts to expand cooperation in education, science, culture, youth affairs and sports, highlighting the opening of a bust of Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli in Dushanbe during the Prime Minister’s visit.
He also announced that a street in the Tajik capital would be named after Rustaveli, describing the move as another step toward strengthening friendly relations between Georgia and Tajikistan.
According to Rahmon, the two sides underscored the importance of maintaining constructive political dialogue and discussed further cooperation between state institutions.
