In the unrecognized region of Transnistria, nearly all enterprises have ceased operations, except for food companies, following a disruption in gas supplies, the region’s “leaders” report.

Authorities plan to clarify household energy usage on January 5, after which they will determine the amount of gas needed for food production.

The energy crisis began on January 1 when supplying gas to Eastern European countries via Ukraine halted. Russia also refuses to provide gas to Moldova due to accumulated debts.

According to the Russian-language service of the BBC, citing the local company Tiraspoltransgaz, approximately 75,000 homes were left without gas on New Year’s Day. Additionally, 150 kindergartens and 130 schools are without heating.

Transnistria, a breakaway region on the eastern bank of the Dniester River, remains outside the control of Chisinau, with the majority of its population speaking Russian.
