The health condition of 21-year-old Aleksi Tirkia, who was injured during the dispersal of a protest rally in Tbilisi on Tuesday, is reported to be stable. Tirkia remains in a drug-induced sleep, according to Nino Kharaishvili, head of the neurological department at Ingorokva Clinic.
“Vital parameters are stable at this moment,” Kharaishvili said during a statement on Wednesday.
Tirkia was allegedly struck in the face by a gas capsule during the demonstration’s dispersal. His uncle, Ioseb Chanadiri, shared details of the incident, recounting that the young man had called his grandmother to inform her he was surrounded by law enforcement. During the call, his girlfriend was injured in the leg, while he was hit in the eyebrow area.
Although Tirkia’s vision is reportedly unaffected, surgical efforts to restore tissue were suspended due to swelling, Chanadiri added.
