Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is prepared to meet US President Donald Trump as soon as possible to finalise a joint peace plan, potentially on Thursday, Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said on Tuesday.
“President Zelenskyy wants a meeting with President Trump as soon as possible, possibly on Thanksgiving, to finalise the US–Ukraine agreement on the conditions for ending the war,” Yermak said.
He noted that a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders could “add weight” to Trump’s peace initiative and demonstrate Washington’s continued support for Ukraine.
“I hope President Zelenskyy’s visit will take place as soon as possible, because it will help President Trump continue his historic mission to end this war,” Yermak added.
Thanksgiving Day in the United States falls on Thursday. President Trump is expected to spend the holiday at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida and return to the White House on the evening of November 30.
On November 20, Western media published a leaked 28-point US peace plan. The proposal included provisions viewed as concessions to Russia. Ukraine subsequently sent a delegation to Geneva for talks with US representatives to revise the most contentious elements.
Following consultations, Oleksandr Bevz, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, said that several points had been removed from the draft, while others were amended.
Financial Times on Monday reported that the US peace proposal had been reduced by nearly one-third, now containing 19 points instead of the original 28.
Earlier today, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that both Ukraine and Russia had been engaged by Washington in the peace negotiation process.
