The priorities, which were set for Georgia for its membership candidate status by the Council of Europe, based on the recommendation of the European Commission, are feasible, said former European Parliament member Rebecca Harms.
In her recent comments, the former MEP said that Georgia has a little more to do for de-oligarchization than Moldova and Ukraine .
“I understand very well why the Georgian people are upset, I also understand well that the Council of Europe, on the recommendation of the European Commission, finally opened the door to Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.
“Georgia has a little more to do and the priorities that have been defined must be fulfilled by December. Georgia has several significant problems to address, including the independence of the judiciary, media freedom, and to some extent – corruption”, Harms said.
She stated that in Moldova and Ukraine, de-oligarchization had been the main issue in recent years, while for Georgia “it is a new topic”, noting that all recommendations, which concern judiciary, electoral or other issues, were feasible.
