Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday said the European Union’s decision later this year, whether to launch accession talks with Kyiv after granting the country its candidacy in June 2022, would be “decisive” for whole Europe and its security.

“Either the whole of Europe will win together with Ukraine, together with Moldova, and in the future with Georgia and Belarus, or… the past will win,” said Zelenskyy.

He claimed his Government had completed seven conditions outlined by the European Commission for the launch of accession talks.

The Commission is scheduled in early November to present its final report about the implementation of the reform agenda by Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.

Unlike Ukraine and Moldova, who received the EU candidacy last year, Tbilisi is expecting a “positive decision” on its candidate status, as the country was granted a European perspective last year, described as “unfair and not merit based by the Georgian Government.
