The EU Representation in Georgia on Friday reacted to concerns by Georgian officials over the recent presence of Zurab Adeishvili, the wanted former Prosecutor General of the country who currently serves as an advisor to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, in meetings with German and the European Union officials.

The mission clarified Gert Jan Koopman, the Deputy Director General of the Directorate of EU Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations had routinely engaged in discussions with the Ukrainian delegation.

The statement emphasized last Tuesday, Koopman met with the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, accompanied by several members of the Ukrainian delegation and condemned any attempts to misrepresent the nature of the meeting as disinformation.

Correct information regarding EU activities could be easily verified on official EU social media channels, the mission noted.

Addressing disinformation aimed at the European Union was highlighted as the initial step out of nine necessary for opening accession negotiations, according to the statement.

The Georgian Dream officials said this week the appearance of Adeishvili in meetings with EU officials could spark anti-western sentiments in Georgia.
