The European Union in Georgia on Friday gifted a set of high-technology equipment including water rescue, mine rescue, fire inspection and special training equipment to the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia under its SAFE programme.
The equipment was procured by the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), which is one of the implementing partners of the EU SAFE, the EU in Georgia said.

Nicholas Cendrowicz, the Head of Cooperation in the EU representation, pointed to “devastating results” of climate change and noted the equipment would help the agency to respond to crisis situations more effectively.

Nino Barkaia, the Head of International Relations Division at EMS, extended her gratitude to the EU and UNOPS for their “continued assistance” in equipping the body, and highlighted the contribution would play an “important role in the development of the institutional capacity of our service”.

“It’s also worth highlighting the importance of strengthening the capabilities of the training center in the areas of water and mountain rescue operations”, EU in Georgia cited her as saying.

The first batch of equipment was provided to EMS in December 2022 that included victim search equipment for land, sea and mountains, high-mobility vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, skiing equipment, and drones for search and rescue operations.
