EU hails its Association Agreement with Georgia as “milestone” on 9th anniversary

The European Union delegation to Georgia on Tuesday hailed its 2014 Association Agreement with Georgia as a “milestone” that could lead the country to the bloc’s full membership.
“Today we celebrate the 9th anniversary of the signing of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, a milestone that strengthens the bond between us as partners. The reforms based on this agreement are important steps towards Georgia becoming a full member of the European family.Congratulations to Georgia on this special day!”, said the EU delegation.
In his messages on the day, prime minister Irakli Garibashvili called the deal a “ historic event in itself, it laid the foundation for other achievements and consistent progress toward Georgia’s eventual integration into the EU”.
The PM added he was “confident” Georgia’s striving to obtain the EU membership candidate status later his year would be completed by the “well-deserved recognition” of the country’s progress over the years.
