Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia, Darius Vitkauskas, has cast doubt on optimistic interpretations of the latest EU enlargement report, advising a realistic approach to assessing Georgia’s progress toward European Union membership. In a recent post on social media, Vitkauskas recommended that those who view the report as showing progress should take off their rosy glasses.”
„For those who say that the latest EU enlargement report “shows progress” on Georgia’s EU accession track, our sincere advice – “Take off your rosy glasses when reading it”. There is no progress, but a continued stalemate, if not regression,” the Ambassador stressed.
On October 30, the European Commission published its annual report on EU enlargement, addressing Georgia’s integration status. According to the report, Georgia’s EU integration process had been stopped. EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Herczynski, explained that the suspension is a direct result of the Georgian government’s current policy direction, adding the process will remain paused as long as Georgia continues to distance itself from the EU.
