Peter Stano, the European Commission’s lead spokesman on foreign affairs, expressed support for outgoing EU Ambassador to Georgia, Carl Hartzell,as the ruling Georgian Dream party officials said on Thursday that the diplomat played only a “negative role” in the EU Georgian relations, as well as for Georgia’s bid for EU membership.

“Georgia: delivery on reforms and the EU agenda is a task for domestic politicians. Blaming others for their own unfulfilled ambitions only confirms the need to have more time to understand how the EUI works and that reforms are a homework. The EU fully supports Carl Hartzell  who did a great job for EU-Georgia  ties!” Stano tweeted on Thursday.

The ruling Georgian Dream party head Irakli Kobakhidze said yesterday that the GD refrained from making any comments on Hartzell’s “negative role,” due to Georgia’s plans to become the member of the EU.
