Ukraine and the European Commission have extended the agreement on the liberalisation of freight transport for an additional year, with the possibility of automatic extension until the end of 2025.
“This is an important step towards the integration of Ukraine into the EU zone, increasing Ukrainian exports and EU imports, and strengthening the economy and stability,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on the social network X.
The agreement, originally signed on June 29, 2022, is renewed annually. It eliminates the need for Ukrainian carriers to obtain permits for bilateral and transit transportation within the EU. This regime was established as a critical measure after Ukraine’s Black Sea ports were blocked following the Russian invasion.
