European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called on EU member states to donate coronavirus vaccines to Ukraine.

As UNIAN reports, von der Leyen said this during an online broadcast for a speech at the all-Ukrainian forum "Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Answers".

She recalled the creation of the global COVAX initiative, thanks to which Ukraine will receive the first batches of vaccines against coronavirus, which will be vaccinated for doctors and medical personnel this month.

“Millions more doses of vaccine will arrive in Ukraine by summer. The European Union is the largest donor to the COVAX initiative and we are proud of that. And in addition to COVAX, I asked EU members to donate their part of the vaccines to Ukraine. All vaccines from the EU are guaranteed to be safe and effective. They have been thoroughly verified by the independent European Medicines Agency,” – said the President of the EC.

According to her, "The European Union is on the side of Ukraine, as it always was, including in difficult moments of your modern history, because we are all one European family."
