The European Commission on Wednesday recommended the European Council to grant Georgia the European Union membership candidate status with conditions in December, Ursula von der Leyner, the Commission President said at a press briefing.

“The conclusion provides a recommendation from the Commission to grant Georgia the candidate status from the point of view that some reforms should be implemented”, she said.

The Commission today released its assessments of Tbilisi’s meeting the candidacy conditions outlined last year, after Georgia applied for the bloc’s membership in March 2022, shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
