European countries have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collective defense capabilities and enhancing support for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.
Following a “Weimar+” meeting of foreign ministers in France, representatives from Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, the European External Action Service, and the European Commission issued a joint statement emphasizing their dedication to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
“We are ready to enhance our support for Ukraine. We are committed to its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s war of aggression. We share the goal of continuing our support until a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace is achieved—one that guarantees both Ukraine’s and our own security interests,” the statement read.
The Weimar+ group also anticipated further discussions with American allies, highlighting the importance of placing Ukraine in a strong position in future negotiations.
“Ukraine and Europe must be part of any negotiations, and Ukraine must receive strong security guarantees. A just and lasting peace in Ukraine is essential for transatlantic security. The security of the European continent is our shared responsibility, and we are working together to strengthen our collective defense capabilities,” the statement concluded.
