European Orbit of Georgia demands answers as 2,000 Georgian voters “drop” from consular list

Nino Lomjaria, founder of the European Orbit of Georgia platform and former public defender, on Thursday called for greater transparency following alleged discrepancies in voter registration figures for Georgians living abroad.

Lomjaria expressed concern over the drop from 67,000 registered voters on August 9 to just 65,000 according to recent data from the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Lomjaria noted that, according to official sources, a total of 128,000 citizens had registered electronically at consulates. The sudden reduction of 2,000 registered voters has raised questions about the fate of those individuals. “We need answers about where these people have gone and why they were removed from the list,” she said.

Criticizing the lack of clarity from government agencies, Lomjaria added, “the process is completely opaque. We listen to the CEC sessions all day, but we still do not have answers regarding the disappearance of these individuals.” She emphasized the importance of understanding the situation before discussing the legality of any potential voting restrictions.
