A delegation of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who arrived in Georgia on December 11, met with President Salome Zourabichvili, opposition party leaders, civil society organizations, and media representatives on December 12.

Reinhard Bütikofer, a member of the Green Party, referred to the leaders of the Georgian Dream party as “illegitimate leaders” and accused them of “unconstitutional actions.” During the meeting with President Zourabichvili, discussions included the police’s alleged brutality against peaceful protesters and how the Georgian people can freely determine their future.

“We fully support President Zourabichvili in her efforts to guide Georgia back onto the European path,” Rasa Juknevičienė, Lithuanian MEP, wrote on X.

German MEP Sergey Lagodinsky also expressed support for the President, stating on X: “Thank you @Zourabichvili_S for your work and your courage. We stand by you and your brave people! Great to be in Tbilisi with you and all the Georgians.”

Lagodinsky emphasized that under the current circumstances, MEPs have no choice but to “stand with those who are oppressed, beaten, and imprisoned.” He criticized the Georgian Dream, stating, “No democratic force should treat its citizens the way it does.”
