Several European states are ready to ensure the transportation of imprisoned former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili abroad, if Tbilisi city court allows his release or the postponement of the rest of his sentence reportedly later today, Saakashvili’s lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze told the media on Monday.

The trial hearings on granting the former official’s release on medical grounds are expected to end later today.

Khachapuridze siad the defence would request the last session to take place in the Vivamedi civilian clinic in Tbilisi, where Saakashvili has been receiving treatment since May of the last year.

The trial hearings were launched in early December.
