Georgian Patriarch Ilia II said on Tuesday that every sorrow turns into joy, during his sermon on the holiday of the elevation of the holy cross, which coincided with the tragic day for Georgia, a fall of Sokhumi, the main  city of Georgia’s western Abkhazia region, which symbolizes Tbilisi’s lose of control over the region 29 years ago.

“We must remember that joy and sorrow are very closely related to each other, but we must know that every sorrow turns into joy. Now there are many sad people, many foreigners have come to Georgia, but we look at the future with the eyes of hope”, said the senior cleric.

Stressing the power of the cross, the Patriarch said that “we should raise our children with the power of the cross, and man will be victorious”.

“Today is the day of sorrow – the fall of Sukhumi, but do not be afraid, sorrow will turn into our joy, the fall will turn into elevation”, said Ilia II.
