Aleksi (Buka) Petriashvili, Georgia’s former State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration between 2012-2014, has announced his political comeback, citing current political developments in the country and the Government’s alleged pro-Kremlin sentiments.

Petriashvili is currently a Senior Fellow at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (Rondeli Foundation).

“I believe it’s time for me to step up my involvement in political affairs, especially given the severe challenges our country is facing. I am determined to lend my expertise, energy, experience, and connections to support Georgia’s path towards a European future. Joining the European Union is the ultimate goal, and I’m committed to contributing to our country’s success in achieving it,” Petriashvili told Radio Liberty.

Petriashvili quit after then Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili fired his ally, former Defence Minister Irakli Alasania, who currently works in the US.
