Ex-Ombudsperson Lomjaria creates public platform

Nino Lomjaria, Georgia’s former Public Defender, who was sharply criticized by the current Government for her activities in the post and commended by Georgia’s foreign partners,on Tuesday announced the creation of a new public platform – Georgia’s European Orbit. 

She said the new platform would give citizens the opportunity to contribute to the development of Georgia’s future visions through their own activism. 

Lomjaria, who was elected to the post in 2017 after the ruling Georgian Dream’s support, has been frequently criticized by the current authorities for “backing” the “radical wing” of the domestic opposition, and taking actions “to spark unrest” in the country to change the Government. 

Diplomatic missions in Georgia, however, have praised Lomjaria for her “professionalism” and “commitment”  to the country’s European future.
