Georgia’s former PM under the current ruling Georgian Dream party will run for Tbilisi mayor in the October 2 municipal elections.
His major competitors will be incumbent mayor Kakha Kaladze from the ruling party and Nika Melia from the united opposition.
Gakharia left the PM’s post and the Georgian Dream party in February 2021 after the controversies with the party leadership.
Later, in May, he formed the For Georgia political party and presented candidates for the municipal elections.
The ruling party has accused him of ‘betraying the party and the state interests.’
