The For Georgia opposition party, founded by the country’s former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia last year, fired its member in Tbilisi City Assembly, David Partsvania, on Friday from the party, accusing him of taking $20,000 from the ruling Georgian Dream party for “cooperation”.
Zaza Tavadze, a chair of Tbilisi for Georgia faction in the city assembly, claimed that Partsvania had been offered a high post in exchange for informing the ruling party and the country’s state security agency over the party’s activities and plans.
The party claimed that the ruling party continued “to fight” against For Georgia and compared the methods of the Georgian Dream with those by the previous United National Movement government.
Gakharia quit premiership and the party last year following the controversies with the party leadership.
The Georgian Dream authorities have several times accused him of cooperating with the “radical” UNM in a bid to “overthrow the government”.
However, the ruling party has provided no evidence so far to back the allegations.
