Mikheil Saakashvili, the currently imprisoned former President of Georgia, on Tuesday addressed Armenians and Azerbaijanians and claimed Russia had plans to spark further unrest in the region.

In his social media post, Saakashvili said Moscow was “vitally interested” in stirring up a new military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia to intervene more actively in the politics of the South Caucasus.

“The Kremlin is pushing the parties to resolve the issue of the transport corridor between Azerbaijan and its territory – Nakhchivan by military means, it wants to harm the international positions of Azerbaijan, change the government in Yerevan and place its ‘border guards’ in this corridor”, Saakashvili said.  He noted there were “much more painless and positive” experiences of solving similar issues in the world, citing the road lease agreement between Moldova and Ukraine.
