Imprisoned former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday announced he would receive the Polish Prometheus Award for his contribution to the fight for freedom.

In his social media post, Saakashvili said he would receive the prize on April 14.  Delegations from Ukraine, Georgia and France have been invited to the award ceremony in Warsaw. Also, the Polish government will be represented at the highest level, he said.

Saakashvili was arrested in Georgia in 2021 after eight years in self-imposed political exile and is now serving his six-year sentence for abuse of power while in office.
