Georgian currently imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday called for inter-party unity in the United National Movement – in power between 2004-2012 – and claimed those who had opposed the process would “perish and end up” like his one-time ally Giga Bokeria.

In a social media post from the Vivamedi civilian clinic in Tbilisi, the third President claimed without unity the party would be unable to attract partners and supporters.

“We should all fix the target, our main and at this stage the only target is the Russian regime”, he said.

Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 on his clandestine return after eight years, and is now serving his six-year-term for abuse of power while in office.
