Ex-Pres. Saakashvili calls for “loud” public protests “against injustice”

Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia’s currently imprisoned former President, on Thursday urged the public to express their protests loudly “not only about the injustice against me, but about all the injustices that are happening around you, to yourself, to the country”. 

 

In his social media post, the former official who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, claimed part of the public refused to speak out about their protests, even when they supported him. 

 

“I returned [after eight years] here to show everyone that I’m not afraid and you should  also express your emotions out loud”, he said, claiming “we are many – the absolute majority. Big victories are ahead!”. 

 

Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021, is now serving his six-year-term for abuse of power while in office, while three other cases involving him are still pending.
