Zurab Chkhaidze, a clinical director of the Vivamedi civilian clinic in Tbilisi, where the imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili has been receiving treatment since May, on Thursday rejected claims by the former official and his entourage that Saakashvili had suffered several blackout episodes.

He said no such incidents had been recorded by the clinic’s personnel.

The doctor also rejected claims by lawyers and family members, that Saakshvili was in “critical condition” and  in need of “intensive care”, stressing the former officia’s condition was stable, with all indications “in norm” and that he had suffered a “mild form” of coronavirus.

Saakashvili and his legal team claimed earlier this week the former official had suffered several episodes of blackout due to very “complicated” health ahead of the trial hearing on Friday on granting Saakashvili’s release on medical grounds.
