I believe that every person has the right to make their own decisions, I do not interfere, Giuli Alasania, mother of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili said  on Tuesday in response to recent announcement of the United National Movement opposition party member Levan Khabeishvili to hold a rally in support of his son.

Khabeishvili said on Tuesday that the rally would be organized at the party headquarters in Tbilisi on December 3, at 15:00, after his recent announcement to run for the party chair.

Alasania said  the condition of her son was “critical” and expressed hope that the court would allow his transportation abroad to receive treatment.

Khabeishvili is backed by dozens in the UNM to replace incumbent Nika Melia, who had been accused by the party activists of “taking no genuine actions” to release Saakashvili.

The third president was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in political exile, after his clandestine return from Ukraine to “help the opposition” change the current Georgian Dream authorities “via elections”.

However, the government says Saakashvili’s goal was a “coup”.
