Giorgi Vashadze, the head of the Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party, which has been allied with the United National Movement ahead of the next year’s Parliamentary elections, on Tuesday claimed the issue of Nika Melia, the former chair of the UNM, had been “closed” after the party’s incumbent head Levan Khabeishvili signed a paper over his alleged dismissal this week during a live broadcasting.  “We will start the fight for victory with a completely new strategy and we will all win the election together, which is a geopolitical referendum, so that Georgia can continue its rapid progress in the direction of European integration. I do not see any problem with Khabeishvili’s move – politics is exactly that, the art of symbols. For me, the issue of Melia is over”, he said.

Melia, who was defeated by Khabeishvili in the chairmanship race in January, called the latter a “puppet” in the hands of former UNM officials, and claimed the party was being run from the backstage.

For his party, Khabeishvili claimed Melia had been engaged in a harmful campaign against the party over the months.
