Nino Giorgobiani, the head of the Georgian government’s strategic communications department, on Monday said “fake news and distorted phrases” from the Sunday’s interview of prime minister Irakli Garibashvili were being  “intensively” spread on social media, “misleading” the public over the genuine context.

She stressed the “misinformation campaign” had been particularly targeted at the younger generation and the PM’s wording towards them.

“I will once again remind you of the PM’s statement over students. He said along with the anarchist and the destructive movement, enthusiastic students also stood at the rally, who were not so aggressive, they stood quietly, protesting, they just supported the idea of Europe”, Giorgobiani said.

In her social media post, she also noted “this and other fake news” being spread as part of “political goals” aimed at “misleading the public.
