The European Union (EU) is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia after footage of massacres of civilians by Russians in Bucha and other cities near Kyiv has been released, the Financial Times has reported.
EU ambassadors are expected to discuss the new sanctions on Wednesday.
The forthcoming sanctions are expected to include more Russian citizens, a ban on the use of EU ports for Russian ships, additional export restrictions and an embargo on energy supplies (coal, oil, gas) which Ukraine has long demanded.
Existing sanctions include shutting down seven Russian banks from the SWIFT program, blocking exports of key technologies, closing airspace to Russian airlines and freezing the assets of hundreds of Russian oligarchs and officials, including President Vladimir Putin.
