Fire on Mtatsminda slope extinguished, cause still unknown

The fire on the slope of Mtatsminda in Tbilisi has been extinguished, according to Levan Museliani, head of the Tbilisi Fire and Rescue Forces. The focus is now on treating the affected areas, he said. 

“Based on information received from 112, the fire was spreading on the slope of Mtatsminda. Firefighters responded promptly and arrived on the scene in a timely manner. Firefighter-rescuers localized the fire from all directions. At this stage, the fire has been extinguished”, Museliani noted.

The firefighting operation involved two helicopters from the border police and ten special vehicles from the fire-rescue forces.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage and will be determined by the relevant service. The fire primarily affected grass and bushes on the slope, the official added.
