Georgian police have arrested five individuals in western Zugdidi region for disobedience to law enforcers earlier today, at the polling station No.20, during municipal election run-offs.

Zugdidi mayoral candidate from the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Mamuka Tsotseria has accused the United National Movement (UNM) activists of staging provocations.

The clash began after the UNM activist Giorgi Mumladze called Tsotseria’s supporters ‘separatists.’ Mumladze says for his part that the ruling party activists disliked his presence at the polling station which sparked the tension.

Georgia is holding the second round of municipal elections today.

A total of  2,088,722 voters, including 1,002,525 in Tbilisi ,are eligible to elect 20 mayors and 42 majoritarian members of the City Assemblies.

A total of 358,782 voters (17.18 per cent of eligible voters) have cast their ballots as of 12 p.m. today.
