A member of the United National Movement party, Roman Gotsiridze, told Front News on Tuesday that the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, “has sacrificed five more people [to his goal], and now they will have to walk with the label of pro-Russian”, in comments on the recent expansion of the Popular Force, a movement created by former MPs of the ruling party in summer in a bid to “tell the public the truth”.
The MP said that by adding five MPs to the group, the ruling party was left with 76 legislators in Parliament, “which means that in the case of absence of a single MP, they will need the support of its former MPs to pass laws” in the 150-member state legislature.
“This means that the ruling party has unveiled its real face. The party will cooperate with its former MPs who are pro-Russian, anti-western”, said the MP.
He suggested that others would also be “added to the odious group” as Ivanishvili “will create a party” from it.
The former MPs of the ruling party had several times accused the US Embassy and the US authorities in general of “backing radical forces” in Georgia and taking actions to “drag Georgia” into Russia’s war in Ukraine.
