Ilia Darchiashvili, the Georgian foreign minister, on Tuesday announced the personnel of two Georgian-based airlines, who had been trapped in Sudan amid severe clashes, had been transferred to a neighboring state.

He said the 33 Georgian citizens, who had been evacuated with other nationals from the Sudanese capital early this week, were “safe” and waiting for return to their homelands that he said would take place “soon”.

The employees of Myway and Geosky airlines were on Monday transferred to a Sudan-Egypt border from the epicenter of power clashes between Sudanese regular army and a strong paramilitary group.

Foreign media has also reported the aircraft belonging to Myway airlines and leased by a Sudanese company had been burnt during clashes.

The reports have not been officially confirmed  by the company so far.

The armed conflict in Sudan has claimed more than 400 lives and left thousands injured since April 15.
