The For Georgia opposition party, founded by former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia in 2021, on Wednesday rejected the claims by Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, that Gakharia, former Public Defender Nino Lomjaria and President Salome Zourabichvili were planned to form an alliance for the next year’s Parliamentary elections.
Ana Buchukuri, the party representative, said her party was not interested in cooperation with Lomjaria, whose term in the post expired last year and who has been widely criticized by the GD for “cooperation” with the United National Movement opposition, while she noted the alliance with the President “was impossible” due to her status.
In his claims, Kobakhidze said the potential alliance would have “no chances” to defeat his party.
Gakharia quit the GD and premiership after controversies with the ruling party figures, and later the party also accused him of cooperation with the UNM, the largest opposition group in the country in power between 2004-2012.
The For Georgia party claims the ruling power is “afraid” of its “growing rating”.
