For the first time in the history Georgia has won the Council of Europe International Award for Cultural Routes.On October 23, 2021,  in Italy, at the Cultural Routes Competition organized by the Council of Europe, Wine Company SHUMI won the international title “Best Archaeobotanical Practice in Wine Tourism”, that raises the country’s awareness in world market and promotes Georgian viticulture and winemaking.

 

The International Award was established by two cultural routes of the Council of Europe –  “Iter Vitis” and  “Phoenicians route”, which aims to expand the cultural and oenological heritage of the countries of two international networks, promote the development of experience, innovative and sustainable tourism.

 

The Council of Europe Cultural Routes Program was founded in 1987 by the Council of Europe with the aim of highlighting the contribution of various European countries to the common cultural heritage through time and space travel and promoting the diversity of modern Europe, the sustainable tourism development. 

 

Wine Company Shumi was established in 1997 in Tsinandali, Kakheti.

 

A 9-hectare Tourist Complex occupies a historic location and borders the National Park and Museum named after A. Chavchavadze.

 

The complex includes 38 tourist locations, among which is a Compehensive Varietal Collection Vineyard, where there more than 1300 grape varieties, including Georgian ones, which are endangered.

 

The Comprehensive Varietal Collection Vineyard is included in the list of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and has its own unique code: GEO036.

 

This is the largest private ampelographic collection in the world!
