Foreign national apprehended at Georgian customs border for smuggling gold jewelry

In a joint effort between the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, a foreign citizen has been arrested at the customs border of Georgia.

According to the investigation, the accused had evaded customs control at the Sarpi checkpoint, bringing in 1,237 grams of gold jewelry with a customs value of 128,159 GEL. 

The offense carries a potential penalty of imprisonment ranging from 5 to 7 years.
