The foreign nationals who will arrive in Ukraine to fight with Russia will receive Ukrainian citizenship, the Ukrainian government says.

“Foreigners who are and will come to Ukraine to fight against the Russian invasion will be given the opportunity to obtain Ukrainian citizenship,” – local media outlets have cited the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Yevgeny Yenin, as saying.

“If such foreign nationals are interested in obtaining Ukrainian citizenship, our legislation provides such an opportunity,” – he noted.

Thousands of foreign nationals are currently in the country to fight, including Georgian citizens.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
